Chocolate Orange Porridge

Serves 1

Porridge is divine when you stir in some cacao. But, for this bowl I went one step further with the classic chocolate & orange combination.

Cacao powder is a lovely addition to porridge. It is perfect to make a dish delicious and chocolatey whilst getting cacao’s natural benefits such as being high in magnesium and copper, both being important nutrients, especially to start the day with.

Ingredients

40g oats

200ml water/plant based milk

1 tbsp cacao powder

1 orange, juice and zest

step 1

Combine the oats and water/milk in a small saucepan, bring to the boil.

step2

Reduce the heat, add the cacao and orange juice (add zest if including), cook on a low heat for 5 minutes. Stir occasionally to avoid sticking. If it becomes dry, add some more liquid.

step 3

Once the porridge is your desired consistency, transfer into a bowl. Sprinkle with your chosen toppings such as orange zest, orange segments, cacao nibs and different seeds.

Notes

- To make it super orangey include the zest too. Otherwise, store in the fridge or freezer and use in another recipe to avoid wasting it.

- Using fortified plant milks are a great way to get some further nutrients into your breakfast such as calcium and vitamin D. Water does work perfectly fine though if preferred.
