Serves 1
This is a lovely thick and creamy drink which is filling and full of my favourite breakfast flavours.
The berries make it a brilliant colour and are a great source of fibre and antioxidants.
By including oats, it’s essentially like having liquid porridge for breakfast, keeping you fuelled until lunch, as the energy slowly releases.
Using frozen fruit prevents oxidisation, ice can be used too. It also helps to thicken the drink.
Ingredients
1 frozen banana
a generous handful of frozen berries
45g oats
2 tbsp mixed seeds
1 tbsp chia seeds
1 tsp maca
1/2 tsp cinnamon
100ml almond milk
50ml water
step1
Combine all of the ingredients into a blender and blitz until the drink is completely smooth.
Notes
- If possible, soak the oats and seeds for at least 30 minutes. Soaking allows them to be easily digestible and therefore kinder to the gut. If you do pre-soak, I just use the soaking liquid and forget about the 50ml included in the recipe.
- Use more milk or water if the drink is still too thick.
- You could use an alternative flavour plant milk, I just like almond. Oat could work nicely with this smoothie.
